In 1996, Cognac Ferrand's Master Blender, Alexandre Gabriel, had the idea to distill the essence of the region into one perfectly crisp spirit. Thus, the first artisanal gin was born, and it happened to be French! The process starts with the star of the gin: juniper berries, which grow right in front of the Château. In addition to juniper berries, 18 other botanicals are progressively infused into in a French wheat-based spirit for different lengths of proof and time to capture each's unique aromatic and flavor properties.

This “Gin de Château” is then distilled in small copper pot stills, resulting in the beautifully balanced distinguished profile of Citadelle Original gin: juniper-dominate with supporting citrus and exotic notes, all with a soft, elegant texture. Best enjoyed in a Citadelle gin and tonic with a swath of fresh lemon zest. If you’re feeling indulgent, pair with oysters like they do in Southwest France!
